LEARNING OBJECTIVE

Being on my first trip to China, there seemed to be a lot to expect for the trip but at the same time, knowing near to nothing about the country and making the decision upon going for this OIP trip makes one hungry for knowledge about the country we’re about to explore. I aim to learn about the different culture in a masculinity society like China and observe the differences in their behavior and lifestyle. Besides that, knowing the fact that China is somehow leading the World’s economy, I hope to learn how the respective systems in China (Education, Transport) are being managed such that the Country is pretty well developed. As a student going over to Tianjin for cross-culture interactions, not only should we gain new skills and knowledge, I think we should also find out how the students in Tianjin spend their daily leisure and Curriculum time. And whether is it similar to the life of a Singaporean student. From seasons, eating habits, power distance or even the simplest facts about Tianjin seemed so vague and unknown at the moment but at the end of the trip, I am sure all the doubts will be cleared. What motivates me to learn is not only the fact that in the near future, we might be working with a Chinese partner and such invaluable experience during the trip may be applicable when the time comes, but with the growing excitement within to learn new skills and gain new knowledge act as the driving engine to make me hungry for the upcoming learning experiences ahead. Not only can we use the skills and knowledge learnt from the trip to share my experiences with my fellow school mates, the process of learning will allow me to learn more effectively and explore new ways to improve my way of learning. Also, going onto such OIP trip allows me to be more independent and improve on my sense of responsibility. I hope to learn to prioritize my own tasks and manage my time in order to make the fullest use of my 5 weeks in china and make this trip a fulfilling and enriching one.

FOCUS OF INQUIRY

5 weeks in Tianjin may be too short to find out everything that I’m interested in. Thus, choosing particular areas to explore on would be a good and effective way to inquire about my area of interest. To be more precise, Culture of Tianjin, Tianjin’s students’ lifestyle, Transportation/Education systems would be the main area of exploration in these short 5 weeks of my OIP trip.

QUESTIONS FOR INVESTIGATION

- What are the main mode(s) of transport in Tianjin?

- Singapore have our main education system like Primary, secondary, poly or tertiary education.What about tianjin?(Is it very competitive to study in China since the population is so huge?)

- Do students in China have CCA like us?How many hours of commitments do they have to commit.

- What are some of the unacceptable behaviours in their Country?(culture& behaviour)

- Does parents have high expectations of their children since young?What kind of expectations does they set on them?

- Is there any ways they think that are not yet ideal about their managing systems in Tianjin?(E.g Transportation system not efficient enough?)

- Do they usually eat their dinner as a family(Since Chinese is very particular about values such as elderly respect and family bonding) or it’s alright for them to eat individually?

By getting the answers to the above questions, I will be able to extend my knowledge on Tianjin and will be able to work better in the future if I were to come into business contact with a Chinese Business man or even going over for any interactive trips. Understanding the culture and industrial operations of a foreign country will make work much easier.

DEVELOPMENT OF GLOBAL SKILLS

As for the global skills, I think being more open-minded, building up inter-personal skills and comfort level with strangers is the major areas to improve and acquire on. As one steps into the working society, or even at the current level where we will need to work together with different people all over the world to complete certain task, such global skills are essential. Being more open-minded will aid in you working in this modern society. Reason being, when you are partnering with a group of people, one should be more open to other’s views and suggestions on certain topics so as to not limit yourself to your own opinions. In this way, you’ll be able to explore and realize other innovative ways in getting a different result. Inter-personal skills play a major role in the working environment. The levels of success rely pretty heavily on that and thus, I find it really important for an individual to improve on one’s inter-personal skills so as to work better with my working partners. Lastly, comfort level with strangers have to be greatly improved on as we have to constantly step out of our comfort level and work with different groups of people. If one were to be comfortable working with anyone, this factor will works hand in hand with inter-personal skill and make it a more smooth-sailing journey when I step into the working industry. Being able to communicate well and building a good relationship within your working environment will definitely play a minor role in my day-to-day happiness in the future.

LEARNING STRATEGIES

There are lots of ways to learn but the most effective way is not only to learn hard, but to learn SMART. Prior to the trip, I went to research and discover a book about Tianjin’s history and local places of attractions. Despite of struggling a little while reading the book which is written in Chinese characters, the contexts in it allows me to have a brief idea of what to expect for the trip. Reading books is a way, but it can be really dry and boring at times. Different people learn differently and for me, I learn best when I get to hear, watch and do. Thus, watching videos of Tianjin from online websites and of course experiencing new things personally will allow me to learn more effectively. Picking myself up along the way will not only make me realize the right things to take note of but at the same time, allow me to learn more.

All in all, I am sure the whole Tianjin OIP trip experience will speak for itself and having the above learning plan will facilitate in my learning and constantly act as a reminder for me so that I won’t go off track of my learning objective.

DJs+, though didn't really meet up much this year, but always keep in mind, you guys will be the awesome lot that i will never forget:)
You were the first few who told me you'll be following my blog and i doubt you're still reading this now, from strangers, meeting as classmates, crapping and nagging you over those bad habits like a kid, getting to know one another better and eventually becoming BFF and perhaps a little further then to what we are now, from the day we met till now, alot of things happened and those memories we share explains LIFE, going on a roller coaster and sharing both joy and sorrow, just wanna say a BIG thank you for being there and the time shared was truly treasured.(:Hope you'll have a happening year ahead too!:D:D
To my buddy Training coordinator, Sorry if I'd to do a bad job as your partner but I'll try my best to make our trainings work out and make our 2011 an enjoyable and exciting one.HAHAHA!Laugh and cry together yeahh!:D:D
The OB family who's been there to share those SWEATY Fridays and moments together, spreading the 'lack of oxygen' hiccup laughter..The group of AWESOME people whom i will never regret to meet in 2010:)
And of course not forgetting the MARVELOUS T1A05 people who made my days in NP colourful and memorable!!Will always yearn to have another game of Basketball together and before i meet you people, I've never thought that Poly life will ever be that exciting and happening!!Sharing those days in the library mugging...laughing and crapping in class..and of course, out of school, shopping and prawning together!!:D:DSIMPLY LOVE YOU PEOPLE!!The family in school(:To those special individuals(you know who you are), thanks for being there for me:D

In a days' time, we'll be bidding goodbye to 2010 and Usher in the year 2011.How time flies..seriously...2 more months, I'd be turning 18...I dont wanna to get another year older!!Within this year, many things had happened for sure, be it the happy ones or those days where tears were shed..let's just remember the happy ones and learn a lesson from the days where you fall and pick yourself up..we learn from them and grow to be a stronger person yeah?:)2010 is like a dreams and now, I've woke up and got back to reality once again..knowing next year's gonna be a better year:D
In the beginning of the year, when we were busy working, enjoying life with LE..joining RWS, gaining some experience here and there as we learn together with friends around and of course with the senior ones..:)Getting my O's results and making one of the major choices in life..later on, getting into NP and starting a new chapter of my school life:)
Meeting interesting people along the way and going through stages of growth, at some point, you may feel really tired and burnt out..with friends and family around to support you, cheering you on, just pressed on and you'll see the rainbow after the rain.2010, the year before i eventually turned 18, a year which i felt I've been more emotional than usual.Perhaps, it's just the growing stage I've been through within this year and the ups and downs faced.Especially during the difficult times, thanks to those significant ones who've helped me learn:)
Never think that you've not done good enough cos to me, you've been awesome.I appreciate every little things done and I can sense the effort put in.Thanks alot.Has been busy with NRA, OB and school work for the past months since 19th April..i guess i gotta tone things down next year and give myself time to take a breather..thinking about the Tianjin OIP trip next year, the new people I'll be meeting and of course working with my new 18th Com of OB, i know things are gonna bring on new experiences and challenges ahead for us..LEt's just get geared up and be prepared for the coming year and tell yourself to make full use of it to make it another meaningful year!!(:(:

Dearest Santa,
I'm not asking for too much, but hope that all my friends around me will be happy and enjoying a meaningful X'mas and the last week of 2010..coming up, have an awesom year of 2011 ahead!!D:DThanks to DJs for making my X'mas countdown such a meaningful and memorable one!!:DAnd of course to my lovely friends who spammed my phone when 12midnight strikes!Sorry that i didn't reply in time cos i was enjoying my time in bed..hahaha!=X

I'm wondering if you'll still be reading my blog post..seeing how happy you may be from your FB status..I'm happy for you..knowing that you feel in love again..it may be hard to let it go..knowing I'm somehow holding on to something..but i know, i have to learn to let things loose..a few more days and it'd be christmas..will you send a message to wish me, telling me you'll be there for me..or will you be celebrating and enjoying the festive season with her, popping the question and hoping to hear a 'yes'..All I'd say is..all the best and so long you're happy, I'll be happy somehow too:)LEt's just hope 2011 will mark a brand new start and we'll spend our days together like before, being BFF and laughing, crapping over every little thing in our everyday life..(:I'm waiting to let time reveals what's ahead for us:)

I respected your decision and i hope that if that's really what you want and you'll be happier, i shouldnt be selfish too..I've never comitted SO much into something that now, knowing the fact that i have to learn to let go..i jus need some time..Thanks to those friends, esp weehong, andrew, tienying, daryl, richard, yiwen, yiyue, max, weiyang, weixiong, dean..and many others who'd been there..i have no idea what exactly have happened but i really hope i could get a reason for why that decision was made.Everything was going fine and all..and now..T.TIf you really meant what you say, you should have look straight into my eyes and make me really let everything down, i feel that you're just suffering alone and felt bad cos i can't be there to support you..promise me that things are going to be fine and I want to see things going for the better as time gets by okay?My listening ear will always be ready to hear you out:)
The tears shed and heart hurt..time and everything will gets them healed somehow.Looking that you're happy and enjoying your days, That gives me a reason to smile too..so, show me that you'll stay happy alright:)

Phoooow.Feels damn heavy today..sometimes, i think communication within a relationship is really important.I have no idea what'd happened and despite of asking around, everybody seem to give the same answer: You dont seem OK:(Upon hearing the news from your cousin that things doesn't seem to be alright the past few days, i got worried and tears rolled down despite of me being in the bus.I've never felt so worried before.More of helplessness perhaps.I hope i could do something to cheer you up..but nothing seem to work..how can i show that i really care though at times, i couldn't be there for you..just want to let you know that I'll always be there and just a call, i'll be more than willing to hear you out.Crossing my finger and hoping that things will be alright tomorrow..:(

Has been really emotional lately and apart from the side effects from the malaria pills, i think it has got to do with my personality type somehow:)TYPE 2 character: Needs affirmation(When she do something, thank her or show that you appreciate it:))Needs company and a good listening ear.Always be there to support and motivate..it'll definitely make her day:)She may feel comfortable giving in and meeting your needs, she have her own needs too..when she's nice to you and do things that makes your day, mirror it back and do something nice:)When she thinks that things are taken for granted, she will hesitate to do something, worrying that she's not been doing good enough.A simple message and caring act will goes along way for a TYPE 2:)Although she'll tend to compare and conplain, every night before she sleeps, she'll ALWAYS think of the one that she truely love and care about..thinking what the person has been doing:)

Though I may not be a 100% type 2, i think i'm still one of those typical emotional ones:)

Too much to do, too little time.

Gosh..when I first started poly life, days crawled by ever so slowly and when i felt it was a year, it's probably just another week passed.At this point of time, time is flying like nobody's business. What happened last week seemed like it jus occurred yesterday.
Why am i not feeling the excitement of starting school, the usual smile I'd carry when i know school is starting..T1A05 is no longer in the same class again..being split into different class is not going to affect much on our friendship.I'm still gonna study with the same group of people, score well together and share those wonderful memories that i'd always carry with me.
Looking at my dance schedule and coming modules, the only think i'm going to tell myself is to finish this sem STRONG and make the fullest use of the time given..I may not be spending as much time with my family and love one but i will always set aside my QUALITY time to them as much as i can afford.Pa, Mummy and sis will be going overseas and I bet that period I'll be as busy too..Had always wanted to thank those people and give them a really good hug, telling them how much i appreciated them for being in my life, spending their time with me and being there for me when i needed them most.LOVE every single one of you and no words would ever describe how grateful i felt to meet YOU.Really.The past 6 weeks vacation was filled with CAMPS, DANCE and probably WORK and Routines.Planning special occasions make the days even more meaningful:)Can't wait to be part of OIP!!!;DAlrights, I think i'd better stop here and prepare my stuff for school tmr!:DHope everyone will enjoy their coming sem and work well with their new classmates too!:D

IT's been another longggg MONTHS since i last updated..just have this sudden urge of updating my blog here.within the 4-5 months in poly, a lot of things have happened.Be it those continuous dance trainings in school, tons of camps coming up. just wanna say that NP's too happening and I'm really sorry for not spending enough time with my family and friends:(
Thanks for all those people and my loved and special one who'd always been there for me.Though you might not be showing ur care in the usual way, but it's the thought that counts:DNo matter what, i'll try my best to spend my time out(:
Mummy and Daddy might not be as understanding at times and may nag at me after their long day at work, i tell myself, i'm older now, gotta be more mature in thinking and not be a kid like before and throw tantrums without giving a second thought if i'd hurt anyone.Sis maybe still young and i shouldnt take the fault on her.Just got to let her grow and learn along the way:)
Many things have happened this year and people around me has allowed me to grow more in values and learn what should we done to make my life being lived to the fullest:D
Sometimes, when i was typing on my lappy alone in the living room, writing my diary, it's like doing some self reflection and as i look ahead in life, it seems like there's ton more things that i should really achieve but at the same time, one should learn to take some break here and there and enjoy the slow pace of life:DAJ should go and enjoy a PROPER holiday break(:

Ever since school term starts, i've been heavily packed on my school schdules, be it studies, CCAs or any other volunteery stufff.Garhhs..but here i am, back to my blog again!!:D
Current updates: Just ended my NDP voluntary and is volunteering for YOG!!!I guess Singapore had done a really awesome job and through YOG voluntary, many friendships were built along the way too!!:DAs for studies, School works, tutorials and projects has been piling up..and with the upcoming exams, i doubt i'll blog as often as before:(Life's been awesome in NP and i would say, without my NPOB, NRA, Campmates and classmates, Poly life wouldn't be as PERFECT!!Not forgetting my dearest DJs+ too!!Whenever I'm having fun, i'd always think back in time and wish so hard that i could get back to those wonderful days:DCongrats to Shufei for your MT O'level yep:DAs for the rest, not to worry, just take this as a practice and make sure you'll score better for the retest!!I'm sure you guys can do it, jiayou!!:D

Booohooo!!!~FNAJ's BACKKK!!!
Back from Pulau Aur, Ubin, and off her busy schedule for the weeeek!!!A good SUNDAY to really Chill out and get a good rest:DThe Diving Trip to Pulau Aur was really AWESOME!!Didn't expect myself to be able to conquer all those difficulties and coming back to singapore in ONE PIECE.HAHAHA!Those beautiful coral, fishes and not forgetting the scenes of Sunrise and Shooting stars deeply etched within the memories..The first week of the june break give it a great headstart for the coming week!!:D
Frankly speaking, i'm really getting lazy to give long blog post..so yeapp, was just briefly sum everything all up aites?HAha!Going backwards...Today, It's....FATHERS' DAY!!!Went to Singapore Flyer with Abby's Family, Huien and Daddy!Sis and mummy gotta work..so yeapp, had a sweet time spent together and manage to really shop for the things i NEED:DMet up with Eugene since we both need to get something around town and instead of exploring the scapepark, we ended up walking around Heerenn!!:Dhahah!Bought my bagpack!!(Grey and pink)...Shopped around with Daddy after dinner and this NikeAir series caught my eye!!It has green and pink for the option..And as expected..the PInk and Grey one was chosen.Have no idea what's wrong with me today..was wearing pink and grey..and whatever matches that colour caught my eye.LOL!As for the time on the flyer, i just felt that Singapore's scenery is pretty common but the time spent with my loved ones make the 40mins ride such a meaningful and enjoyable one:DOkayys, it's getting kindda lengthy now..shall end here then, some photos uploaded and to see more, go on FB!:DHAve a great week ahead yeahh.that's to YOU!!!:D

Tired not physically but somehow...garhhh, don't know how to put it in words..hate the feeling after i cry...woke up early in the morning today and met eugene for a good jog around the track..Shiok!Weiyang and weixiong came too!Hope we can all jog together next time, train and motivate one another...i need max to push mann.haha!
Played basketball during the break and hurt my finger...it's FREAKING PAINNNN!!..cant bend it now and is currently typing with only 3 fingers..HAHAH!Thanks to Max for trying to soothe the pain somehow...tienying and kris too!:DCried again after that for some stupid reason, once i start crying, i can't stop?HAHA!i don't know why luhh, but you'll tend to be more emotional for the rest of the day..but at times, i guess some stuffs are not meant to joke around..

Sighhhs,time's truly passing by at a speed faster than anything else mann!Gosh, *look at the calendar*...it's going to be JUNE!*almost fainted*...has been nearly 2 months since school starts..life's been hectic...from monday to sunday(IS, S&W, NRA, Diving course, OB trainings, Tutorials, Lectures, PRac, Friends meet out, class bonding...)...Too much to name.
Being in my current T1A05 class is truly an HONOUR:DAs compared to some of the other classes, i think our class is one of the exciting and happening one:DWith crazy and hyper people around, the day never fails to end off with something funny or memorable:)

OMGAWWWWDDD..How scary can that be, in a blink of an eye, i've been in Ngee ann for a MONTH or so!!Can the time jus chill pill abit and slow down...i've been panting luhhh..camps, CCAs, studies...so many things, so little time.haa!However, with friends and such a happening schedule around, life's never bored isn't it?hahaha!
Jus came back from Icamp awhile ago...slept a straight good 4 hours and could have jus slept till the sun rise lurhh!Eyes trying to stay open now..and skyping while posting the updates for the past 7 days..haa!Camp was fun..but as compared to Sportscamp, NPSU..hmms, there's definitely ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT:)
Thanks to Mabel for choreographing the dance..we did our best in the shortest possible time to come up with the idea eh?haaa!And guess what?Just by the last minute choreographing, we got the best performance group..WOW:DOwn-ed:DPAid $12 for the camp and only spent less than 24 hours there..NICE~~First day, gotta left early cos got practice session on saturday..Rthl asked me to wake up and meet at 6.30am, in the end, we were supposed to meet by 9.45am...not too bad anyways, at least we get to have a hearty breakfast:DDay 2-Reported late and thanks to Soonxiang for bringing me and Mabel to the loft:DOkayys,it's getting too wordy here...Pictures to balance things out..:DDD

NP's SOoooo My second home now.
Has been going to school for 7 CONSECUTIVE days.Went to school for NRA audition yesterday and Today for Project work discussion.Received messages and calls to inform me about a group of us making it through for the NRA Audition, was screaming at the void deck without realising it luhh!It's like some joke and dream..I wanna have a good sleep tonight but i just can't calm myself down and believe what has just happened is TRUE..out of a few hundreds of people who have went for the audition, we actually MADE it..OMG...Syaff, Benjamin, Muhaimin, Farah, Devy...WE ROCK:Dhaa!Felt so WOW by the news.And hope from today onwards, we're SO gonna Dance it off and make the BEST out of it..agree people??haa!Today's really the BEST day of the week mann..SUNDAY, despite of having to report back to school, it's all WORTH it:DThe AWESOME time spent with Weiyang, Kris, Vane and Eugene..knowing one another better..(:

HELLO EARTHLINGS!!!!
SORRY yeahhh!Has been SUPER DUBER BUSY since school reopens, feel so bad for not updating my blog:(And I'm FINALLY BACK to update YOU with what's been HAPPENING!!:D
Just wanna say that NP truly ROCKS!!Haa!Didn't regret for putting it on my FIRST CHOICE MANN!!AWESOME FRIENDS, AWESOME CLASS, AWESOME EVERYTHING!!!No words can ever describe the first week in school mann!..Though i may be in school like from 8am-8pm, but the second home's GREAT!haha!Walking around, exploring the different schools and hideouts, going GA-GA over those food and COOL corners..joining and being part of every interesting CCAs(Joined 8!-Netball, volleyball, NRA, Dancesport, batucada, outward bounder, Rotaract, Diving club!!) and events:DDKayys, Jus came back from another long school day that ended off with unstoppable laughters..LOL!Shall post the photos to feed you more about it:DDD*READ ON!*

As for yesterday, a group of us met up and went to Bishan to prawn!!A sudden decision and did a mass convo online to confirm the details, not too bad:DAnd we met this really kind uncle!!:DManage to have ard 30+ prawns in the end, have some of them BBQ-ed and the rest was sent into the Kitchen to cook with Oat!!COOL!!!Love it!But felt kind of cruel and guilty having to eat those prawns that I've seen jumping around awhile ago when they were first 'hooked up'..T.T

Can't wait for Akira to get the shirt design out:DDhaha!After all the plannings, meet ups, sms-es sent out..finally, everything is done!!Though the workshop may not be a total success, at least it went on pretty smoothly:DIn fact, i still very much prefer kids that are able to RA-RA me:))haa!
The P3 and 4 was a better batch to play around with as compared to the P5 and 6..sighs, maybe the weather and mood was another factor to take into consideration.Anyways, The team today was a great one!!:DYiwen can really take over the mic:))haa!Hazmie's another one..with his COOL voice. After the 4 days of IT fair road Show, I think i've tired myself out..Just by that few hours of sleep and the whole day of standing and talking..It's just not my usual routine.haa!However, despite of all these, I still feel that the four days spent was worth it..Thanks to Richard for recommending the job yeahh!:DThe Job may be tiring, but with those wonderful colleagues around, it made all of our IT fair experience a memorable one:))Was initially sent to Toshiba, in the end, i called in to request to be transferred over to Lenovo..In the end, Toshiba booth was jus RIGHT In front of the entrance..*Faint*hah!Location for our booth wasnt really a desired one, however, we still tried our best to get the customers in.haa!The sales wasn't really important though, to enjoy the job was my ultimate point:)Mac, LG, Courts, Fujitsu were all around us..Strong compeitition..Was so surprised to see Hongkuan promoting for Mac jus across my booth!:)Next, Yihong walked by, promoting for M1, met Jieying, Jiayi, Jervis and many friends and seniors!The next day, Zhengyao met up with us to travel down to suntec..enjoyed those train journeys yeahh!:))Thanks lots to friends who came down to support!Esp Mabel and Sacchi!!:)My dearly sis too!!The hot milo saved me:)
